About

Swilly Hiking Club was formed in May 2012. Based in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, the club is ideally located and is central to a vast area of uplands and coastal areas which are perfectly suited to hiking and hill walking. The Derryveagh Mountains, Bluestack Mountains, Knockalla, Sliabh Liag, Mount Errigal and the Inishowen Mountains, are just some of the big players that come to mind. Also within the locality we have Glenveagh National Park, Ards Forest Park and Horn Head as well as many coastal areas and the offshore islands which have splendid hiking. Looking further afield, places like The Sperrin Mountains, The Mournes, The Antrim Mountains and The Dartrey Range are all within driving distance.

The club is registered with Mountaineering Ireland and abides by its guidelines. Each member is insured through the Mountaineering Ireland policy. It is a vibrant club with about 40 members, who are proactive in every aspect of hiking. Members have undertaken training courses in mountain skills, group leadership, first aid, map reading and navigation as well as environmental awareness. Swilly Hiking Club is for social and recreation purposes only and is not a business undertaking or a professional body.
